Matt Prior (Picture) opening his England batting account with a rapid and unbeaten 126 off only 128 balls, becoming the first England wicket keeper to hit a century on their debut.

Matt Prior

Prior starred as England declared on 553 - 5, with three other England batsmen also hitting centuries (the first time since 1938), Allistar Cook scored 105, the increasingly key figure of Paul Collingwood was bowled for 111 and Ian Bell remained unbeaten with Prior on 109.

The third day ended with the West Indies on 363 for 7

with Monty Panesar recording overnight figures of 4 for 108, earlier in the day England lost Matthew Hoggard to a groin injury. Collingwood and Liam Plunkett shared the other West Indian wickets.

Having started well England were frustrated as Chanderpaul remained unbeaten on 63, having received suitable support from Bravo 56 (Caught Cook, bowled Collingwood) and wicketkeeper Ramdin (Caught Collingwood, bowled Plunkett)

England must look to polish off the West Indies tail early on day four, if they are to retain ambitions to win the first test under new coach Peter Moores.
